Twin Outlet Manifold

I noticed this item for sale. I'm curious what vehicle used it. It looks like an A Series engine manifold. The exhaust from number 2 and 3 will not be in the flow of number 1 and 4, but if they went to the trouble of making this, why wouldn't they make the length of #1 and #4 equal? So what's the story on this manifold?

I think it's from a Marina, I'm going to have to reduce the price or give it away!! :D

We only had the 1.8 Marina here in the States. Both the single and dual carb versions had a dual outlet but the pipe connection was flange type. It seems odd that the Marina maintained the clamp type since the Midget had a flange type by this time.

I don't think the Marina used it, although perhaps the mighty 1275 Ital did. I'm pretty certain it was only used on A+ engines, and I know it was fitted to Metros for sure.

Isn't this manifold mentioned in the Vizard bible something to do with giving the exhaust gases an equal length outlet being beneficial to tuning ?????

Yes - when used as intended with the twin exhaust pipe it is very good. But I think you are on your own making up such a pipe.

I was considering fitting the I have one to Ted but it looked like a right faff to pipe it up so I've got a Midget one instead, already got the alloy inlet manifold to go with it.

Thanks, now I know it's for a later model transverse engine with some upgrades. A bit surprised they still used the clamp type fitting. With the center exhaust exit so close to the bulkhead on a Minor, fabricating the front pipe would be a bit of a challenge.

You would probably have better luck selling it on a Mini forum.

I'm 99% certain there are doe pipes available for it on a Minor, as ESM used to sell them.

Unfortunately currently not available - but perhaps they could be persuaded to get one made? Worth asking.

I wonder if one could be fabricated by fitting two standard downpipe front sections and fit a short pipe to link them up before the pipe carried on to the rear------although maybe the midget manifold would perform better, and be less hassle.

As a standard fitting on the Metro and Mini it was an improvement on other cast manifolds but when you start serious tuning that's one of the first things that usually get ditched. So it would be good on a standard or mildly tuned engine but definitely more of a faff to fit than the Midget manifold - but Midget manifolds are getting expensive :o so for someone who is handy with fabricating tubing it would be a good choice. I was going to attempt it but got a bargain Midget manifold and seem to have acquired a flared end bend from somewhere that fits perfectly and just about lines up with a trimmed off down pipe :)

I suggest a 'big bore' single outlet manifold will be good enough for a lightly improved 1275 without the hassles of that twin outlet. If the engine is upgraded with a 'fast road' cam etc etc - then you are in LCB territory.

As already pointed out it looks the same as the later mini cooper around 1990 like this one on my mini engine

and i have a spare from a mates collection of mini cast offs so if i am reading right the ESM exhaust will make it work with a minor set up.
