Front wheel bearing

Hi I have noticed a slight bit of play in my front wheel bearing and I want to replace it with a new one,I have purchased a puller and I wanted to know if anyone has had a new bearing from David manners or which place is the best to purchase one and also is there anything I should watch out for when replacing it. Thank you

Is it a standard Minor setup with drums or has it been converted to discs?

Hi yes it is a standard drum set up on a 69 traveller thanks.

You really shouldn't need a 'puller'. Take great care when fitting the new bearings to ensure they are fitted right way round - note CAREFULLY how the old ones come out - although of course, they may be fitted incorrectly which could be the reason for the 'play'. And make sure you are not sold useless 'C3' fit bearings which have too much play to start with. If you use the search facility - there are a good number of past threads on this subject!

OK thank you for the help. I have a suspicion they may be fitted wrong as the previous owner had all work done at a modern garage and everything they did has been done wrong even down to throwing the spring and washers out of the oil filter bowl.

Whilst you may not need a hub puller - if reading the BMC wksp manual Section K 7 it does state use puller item No: 18G304 with qty 2 adapter bolts 18G304 c (UNF).
When removing the Minor hub I always use this type of puller:-

The above puller can also be used in conjunction with a slide hammer attached if required (good for removing Minor rear hubs).

When drawing the bearing there is the possibility that the inner bearing may stick on the stub axle and detach its self from the hub.
If it does separate please come back on here for further advice if required.

OK thanks for all the advice. I did read in the Haynes manual that if the bearing does separate you may need to take the back plate of to give access to the puller. Hopefully get a new bearing by the end of the week. I have noticed some slight squeaking from the bearing when braking slowly in traffic.

Any front hub I have removed (and there have been a few!) has just pulled off complete with a hand tug - or perhaps a slight encouragement with two tyre levers resting on the wheel cylinder casings. No great forces involved. And oh-dear about the 'modern' garage - well done for finding it out!
