Heated screen @ Reverse light
Hi I have recently fitted a heated front screen and reverse light and my question is I have used a live feed from the regulator box which the previous owner had used for the reverse light as there are some spare due to it having a alternator fitted.I have fitted an in line fuse and a separate switch for both items and they work fine and have had no problems. Is this OK or do I need to change it. Any help would be appreciated, many thanks.
Re: Heated screen @ Reverse light
Two things to look out for: If oy uleve them one then they will flatten the battery, so best two supply the power via a relay that is energised by the ignition circuit - don't rely on the ignition switch without a relay as the switch is not designed to handle that current. Secondly, kae sure that the wire you have used can handle the current. Avoiding the technical spec, thin wire often sold for accessories will handle about 8 amps but the screen will draw 10-12, so you need at least the next size up.

Great thank you for the help I did size up for the screen so that is ok. Will look into fitting a relay thanks again.

You need a warning light for the reversing light - unless it's operated automatically by the gearbox.

If you want to " push the boat out " you could always buy a Timer Relay , instead of an ordinary Relay. One that will switch off automatically for you , after 10 minutes , if you've not done so already.
http://www.autoelectricsupplies.co.uk do a 10 minute timer , product code 140270 £14.06 inc VAT that is rated at
20 amps. That will be beefier enough to handle a rear heated screen. There is a helpful wiring diagram as well. Time to check the state of the piggy bank , if you're tempted ! Not compulsory , of course.
