Pinion Oil Seal

After living with an oil slick for a couple of years I finally decided to start this job and everything seemed to be going surpringly well, prop shaft removed and is supported on an axle stand, the centre nut on the diff wouldn't shift with a breaker bar but using an electric rachet gun it undid immediately.
I've read the original manual and other posts and it should be plain sailing from here and I'm left with the image in the picture with nut and washer removed but the flange is stuck fast.
Have I missed out a vital step somewhere or does the flange just need to be persuaded with a hub puller or rubber mallet? I just don't want to cause any damage by doing something daft so thought it best to ask. The car is a 1971 Traveller which is unmodified to the best of my knowledge.
Many thanks.
