The first ever eBay Car Challenge has gone live. eBay is looking for three restoration projects to receive £4,000 each to spend on car parts from ebay.co.uk. This is perfect for any car enthusiast who just needs that extra boost to kick-start or finish their project that’s been sitting on the back-burner in need of some extra cash.

It would be fantastic if you can circulate this amongst your members as the more people that get involved the better. To enter you simply need to email a photo of the car in its current condition with 500 words outlining the restoration project including the history of the vehicle and the work that needs completing: ebaycarchallenge@launchpr.co.uk.

Three classic restoration projects will each receive £4,000 to spend on car parts from ebay.co.uk

Any car enthusiast that has a classic restoration project sat in their garage or workshop is invited to enter the eBay Car Challenge. Hopeful projects can range from a surprising barn find that’s gathering dust, to a prized family heirloom needing funds to get it back to its former glory.

The three projects will be chosen by eBay on 3 April 2016, with each restoration receiving £4,000 in funding to spend on over 270,000 live listings of car and motorbike parts and accessories available on ebay.co.uk. The restorers will then have until 3 July 2016 to complete their project.

"eBay is the first destination for any car restoration project. The eBay Car Challenge will bring to life the wide selection of car parts and accessories that can only be found in one place, that’s eBay. And in turn will showcase the passion and love of amateur mechanics from across the country,” says Murray Lambell director of retail car parts & accessories, eBay.

To get involved in the eBay Car Challenge, simply email a photo of the car in its current condition with 500 words outlining the restoration project including history of the vehicle and the work that needs completing: ebaycarchallenge@launchpr.co.uk.

Hi Cal,

Thank you very much for that information. This may be my only chance of getting 'Agnes' back on the road, my Dad's much loved original 1956 convertible Morris 1000 that he hasn't had time to restore. Would love to get it done for him. Fingers crossed! Regards,Estelle

I may be wrong but I read the post as giving money to the owner to allow him/her to restore the vehicle themselves, not getting someone to do the restoration.

Indeed - the money has to be spent ON EBAY. And very tight time scale for a heavy project restoration - to be finished by 3 July ! Only 3 months.. So what happens if you spend the money buying parts, and then it's not finished in time....do they grab the money back?

Yes makes no sense to me, the vehicle would have to be thrown together, not very satisfying. On the face of it the idea appears to underestimate the realities of restoring a car ; it's never plain sailing!

It's an excellent idea to encourage restoration (not to mention spending on Ebay!) but alas I fear that they have been watching too much television and started to believe those "reality" restoration shows. It could be ideal for someone who has a project AND a workshop AND the skills required AND who can buy ALL the parts from Ebay AND who has three months with nothing else to do.

Well, I have entered, although not a 'minor' project!

However I also read the T&C's and put this at the end of my entry, so I guess this is the end of my chances!!

"Has anyone at ebay ever restored a car? Does anyone actually think it’s possible to complete a car that is a barn find or sat around gathering dust in around 3 months without having a professional work on it full time for that time? Not a chance!
If a car is pretty much already restored and already in use and something has just gone wrong on it then an amateur doing it in their spare, non-working time, might stand a chance of getting it done it that time frame without external help.
I think whoever has thought up this promotion has come up with an excellent idea but completely fallen short of understanding the sheer time, effort, and tenacity required to see the restoration of a car through.
That’s why you see so many “unfinished projects” end up being sold on places like ebay."

The one doing the work has to have sticky up hair - or wear a silly hat. The other one doesn't ever get his hands dirty and just spends time looking for parts on ebay......

After pondering whether to enter or not,i did enter the competition.Well lets see...welding,respray,interior,chrome work,doors,the list goes on..prob dont stand a snow balls chance of winning anyway!
