Brake adjustment

Tomorrow I am finally taking my car for its first MOT since about 1994. Regular readers will know I previously had problems bleeding the brakes but I have a firm pedal and no air in the system. This morning I drove the car on a private drive and got up to 2nd gear (drive isn't long enough to go further). When I applied the brake, the car seemed to slow and stop but it wasn't convincing - I was hoping for some bite to the brakes but instead it all felt a bit dull/dead. I wondered if perhaps this is the new brake shoes needing to bed in. Or perhaps I have the brake adjusters too tight so insufficient piston travel (currently all adjusters are tight minus one click). Ideas appreciated. I can of course get the MOT garage to fix it but would like a go myself first. Thanks

Well they will need bit of running in, and possibly adjusting up again. Being too tight is not the problem. A few more trips up and down the driveway are called for - with frequent brake applications....

You have driven a moggy before and do know they cannot be compared to a newer vehicles braking system?
Oh and yes give the shoes a bit of time to settle and bed in, then maybe readjust if needed.
