Gearbox oil seal
Hi has anyone got any advice on removing the prop shaft on my traveller,I have a small leak from the oil seal where the prop meets the gearbox and I want to change the seal. Also is there an upgrade available or is it just a straight swop.many thanks.
Re: Gearbox oil seal
There are a few ways but I've managed with a Stillson wrench to twist it off. Usually a twist and a wiggle gets it free. Remember to soak the new seal in oil as there is a felt pad in there as well as the lip seal.

Re: Gearbox oil seal
Renew them both - but the real problem is likely to be wear on the bronze bush in the tailshaft.

Re: Gearbox oil seal
Mark the prop shaft flange ,chalk or scribe the metal so that on re-assembly you can get it back in the same alignment.

Re: Gearbox oil seal
OK thanks for all the help. Can I buy the insert or is it best to just replace the seals. Thanks again for the help much appreciated.
Re: Gearbox oil seal
The insert is a bigger job -0and involves reaming to size after fitting. Try the seals and cross fingers. Worth checking the prop shaft front crosspiece in case it's flailing about due to wear.
