Noisy diff

Good afternoon. The diff in my 1962 Traveller is howling like a banshee. It's always been noisy, but now it's drowning out the radio. It's mostly whiny under acceleration. Any idea how long it will last? I'm reluctant to go too far from home in case something drastic happens. Thanks in advance.

Is there any oil in it? Look for another asap.... I doubt it will let you down 'suddenly' - but just check your Classic Car Insurance includes Recovery.....

Thanks, bmcecosse. Club spares don't have anything suitable; before I shell out for a recon unit, does anyone have a good used example kicking round their garage?

Sold one recently for little money. There are plenty on ebay - huge range of prices. You probably want a 4.22 ratio. Don't believe the stories about 'can't be posted' - of course they can!

Iv just bought a 4.5 for £5 plus £10 postage. On the car trialing seen they go for £45 in that ratio, but im keeping it as a cheap spare.
