Wing mirror

Hi all.
Just about to buy my first morris minor, series II from 1954. The deal is, it has mirrors on the front wings. but what is the story behind this? i have tried to find the story behind on the internet and here on this page and forum, but no luck. Perhaps im a lousy looker, or should som how have figured this out before. but hope you'll bare with me.
i hope on of you can help me.

Thats where "wing mirrors" belong. 30 years ago almost all cars had them there

By the way. I know it's not the original wings, i don't know what it's called in egnlish but you know what im talking about, made in that material that dosen't rust. The question was meant like, what is the story behind it, are the car born with it? and how come it's not that often you see them on pictures, even though the car is from the same year that my "car-to-be" is?

The car came out of the factory with steel wings which either rotted or were accident damaged (probably rotted) and were replaced years later with aftermarket fibreglass ones. The 'wing-mirrors' were then fitted to these new wings to retain the period looks I would imagine.

but it was born with the mirrors on the wing? which models have wingmirrors? was everyone made in two models one with wingmirrors and one 'normal'? it's the story behid the wingmirrors in gneal i can't figure...

Wing mirrors were added later at the owner's request. All the cars were made without them first.
