Morris Minor Owners Club

Hi. I have a Morris 1000 Car, which I need to buy a cover for. I have sourced covers on E-Bay, but just wondered if there was a particular make I should avoid. Or could anyone recommend a particular make. Thank you in advance.

I wasted just over £100 on a Stormforce cover - if that helps. Really - it needs to be garaged - any cover should be considered as a VERY temporary arrangement...

I agree partly with the above. Nothing is better than a garage.

I did buy a stormforce for my mini 4 years ago and it has been excellent. Like all things these days (in the name of the environment) it has started to breakdown and fall apart. So I bought another. You generally get what you pay for, but if it's stored outside, make sure it isn't an indoor cover you buy. You can accidentally order indoor car covers.

The last cover I bought was this one. Quite cheap and good quality, with cotton lined on the inside to protect paintwork.

Just to clarify, it is an indoor cover.

What was the problem you had with the stormforce? I've been really pleased with mine..

Whilst we had scaffolding up on the house, the Minor was kept outside over winter. Even in the thickest frost, the car remained dry and relatively warm underneath.

Now I've got access to the garage back, I'm still using the cover as the roof leaks. I put the car away damp the other week as I was in a hurry and uncovered it on the weekend just gone to find it lovely and dry again.

Certainly, they're expensive and I've only had my cover for 6 months or so, but so far so good for me!

Fair enough Dean, it is for indoor use. Which I use it for.

i bought the medium sized car cover from Halfords and it's been really great. Car kept completely dry throughout the winter - only problem is that it's impossible to fit back into its carry bag once it's out!

I agree. The Halfords medium cover is excellent, had mine for about a year now and no problems to report.

My Stormforce disintegrated in sunlight - it was fine and dry at first - then just fell to dust. Apparently - should not be used in sunlight, or so they said when I queried a refund......

I have used a couple of different outdoor covers over the years. They all seem to last about 3 years, regardless of price. I was looking at one the other day that was much more expensive (£280) and enquired about life expectancy. "Unknown. One year warranty, but many last longer that that. You're down South, so it won't be as long as those up North". I did not buy it! The main thing is to get a cover that is breathable and will keep the sun, bird muck, and other contaminents off the paintwork. If you find a good one then let us know.

My Stormforce was used for 4 months - June-Sept one year to cover my TR7 - which it did very well. Then carefully packed away (as was the car) until following year when again I started using it in June. By Mid August - on the south facing surface- it had turned to the consistency of tissue paper and was of course useless for anything.
