Relay shaft fibre bush orientation

Does
this bush go with the recessed part facing into or away from the gearbox? can't tell from the diagram.

According to the Moss diagram the flat side goes against the gearbox.

And yet the spring fits snugly in the recessed side......
This is what's confusing me (not hard!!!)

The reduced diameter of the bush fits inside the spring which holds the bush tight in and against the gearbox side plate.
