Hi all,
The drivers seat in my 1961 4 door is original and I want to keep it that way.The thing is I want to replace the webbing and foam underneath the leather.Is this a DIY job and does anyone know the chances of the original covers being okay once I've taken them off?Thanks

taking off the foam and replacing the webbing is straight forward, drop me a PM with your email address and i can let you have a newsletter on making your own covers which cover the stripping and rebuilding the seat.

As for your current covers you might have difficulties taking the clips off because if you are not careful when you take them off they can dig in and rip the fabric.

Yes, when I took the clips off there was only rusty metal and a few fibres underneath.

You can refoam and put in new straps without taking the base cover off. The back will need to be slid off but this isbusually quite straight forwards. Tou need to carefully remove 3 or 4 metal clips at the back to do so.

I did this recently in about 2 hours, with a bit of seat cleaning. You could probably even manage it with the seat still in the car and pushed forward, but it'd be very awkward. Once out, just flip the seat upside down and ease the clips out that hold the straps.

It was very interesting to sit in the car again afterwards and find myself several inches higher up! Definitely worth doing.
