Hi all,
I just bought a 56 series II Tourer. It has the split screen, slated grill and long gear lever.
Basically, I want it to LOOK original but like it to accelerate harder.
I want to use a 1275 midget engine in it. I can adapt a 948 gearbox or a 1098 or midget 1275 gearbox to use the long gear lever.
The question is, in order to have a speedo which looks correct and reads accurately, what diff ratio do I need ?
From what I have researched, the series II cars had the unusual direction indicator switch. It was on the column but now self cancelling and did not have its own warning light.
The direction indicator warning light was in the speedo on these cars if what I have read online is correct.
So was this type of speedo used in other cars as well ?
Perhaps my only option, is to go with the correct speedo, use either the 1098 minor or 1275 midget gearbox and chose a suitable diff ratio for my driving conditions and acceleration / top speed requirements, and then used a custom speedo correction gearbox to make it accurate ?
There must be many folks out there who are using 1275 engines in their Minors... how many of you are using one in a series II and still having the correct speedo and have got it to read accurately ??
