Traveller Rear Doors

Post by mike.perry »

My Traveller has been laid up in the garage for the last couple of years and the o/s rear door appears to have dropped so that there is a larger gap beteen the top of the door and the roof than on the n/s door, and the bottom of the door is catching the number plate. I have a pair of hinge repair kits comprising a nut and bolt, spring and ball. I cannot unscrew the existing bolt so it looks like a hacksaw job. Is there any adjustment with the replacement hinges?

There is a small lock tab that holds the nut in place, so check that it is clear. If you drill the bolt head then you will preserve the hinge and be able to use the repair kit. It is sometimes possible to slacken the bolts retaining the hinges and get a very small adjustment, but generally the repair kit solves the problem.

When I refitted my doors - I put a small white plastic washer under the 'ball' on each hinge - invisible when assembled and that lifted the doors as much as I needed for a good fit. Seems odd though that the door would 'droop' when not in use - is there a problem with the timber on that side - or perhaps the metal parts that support the timber......

I have fitted the repair kits to the top and bottom hinges but that has not made any difference. The door has dropped rather than drooped as it is level across the top but is lower than the other door which is also level. There is no significant movement on the hinges when I try to lift the door by the handle, indicating that the hinges are secure.
I will have another play with it tomorrow and see if I have any plastic washers
