The last electrical problem I have to sort on my 62 is the horn. Ive fitted new horns and they work just fine up to the point I connect them to the horn push, which is where I think I have the problem.

Am I correct to say that the horn circuit if complete when you press the push and the connection is made between the center button on the spring and the brass ring and that that circuit is made through the (what I assume is) metallic paint on the underside of the push? Or have I something missing inside the horn push?





BTW can anyone tell me what the square "lump" on the side of the column is for?

There should be a metal ring under the plastic "M" badge to complete the contact.
"Metallic" paint won't do it
I expect somebody has had the hornpuch apart and forgotten to refit that vital part.

That someone will be ME! I've been at this restoration, on and off for 17 years and now that Im putting the final details back is when Im finding small parts missing and that Im forgetting what was where - Today I have a digital camera to use when I strip a car, back then we used something called eh, film!

I didn't really think that metallic paint would cut it but I just couldn't recall if there was something else under the push.

Im sure I will have the part somewhere. I will have a look tonight.

The lump on the steering column is the self cancel for the indicator switch

Found the center for the horn push. It was literally right in front of my face and must have been there for months. I just didn't realize what it was for. So now the horn works, onto the next problem!

Excellent! It is quite a challenge putting a car back together after such a long time isn't it! I did it myself with a Mini a few years ago and had a good few "puzzles"

Its definitely a challenge. Fortunately the Minor is reasonably simple, but then its the simple things that have been causing most of the problems. But hopefully Ive learned my lesson. Its taken 17 years because Ive restored 3 Land Rovers in that time as well as plodding on at the Morris. Ive now got a Chevy C10 to start but the Morris will be finished before I start that.
