Smoking / dodgy start / revving on its own

Post by PaddyD »

Bit of an odd one as this is either the same issue or multiple different issues.
Last week or so I've had a few issues when driving. If I depress the clutch the car will cut out or get very close to cutting out. Then the other day we set off for work and had to stop for petrol, car wouldn't 'start' in that it it fires up but refuses to rev. Video when it does that below.

Eventually it fired up and we got on our way.

I replaced the thermostat (unrelated, I just wanted warmer heating) and started the car, revs went straight up then white smoke started coming out of the right side of the engine. So it's revving on its own then smoke.

Any ideas?

Sticking throttle ? White smoke.....or was it steam ? Is there any water in the block?

Thanks for the reply. Don't think the throttle is sticking and certainly looks more like smoke than steam. Smells a little burnt?

'White smoke' is usually brake fluid burning - due to a dodgy servo... Do you have a brake servo? Oil would be blue - and excess fuel would be grey/black.
