battery drain

Hi I am restoring a 1968 morris minor, the car drains the battery in about 5 mins, it's had a alternator conversion done but the wiring been bodged, I have a new control box, fuse box an loom for it, any other advice would be appreciated, does having an alternator change it to a negative earth

The car needs to be -ve earth for alternator, you dont need a control box but can be left in place and used as connection point. If you have a new wireing loom this should have been specified for the alternator, you would then not have the control box wiring. I still have a control box as I did a conversion as per the instructions in the picture below.

The problem you have with the battery draining may be due to the incorrect wiring of alternator. If not you will need to find the cause by removing the fuses etc to find out what part of the wiring is causing the drain.

Is the battery any good ??? And as above - the car must be converted to -ve earth BEFORE fitting the alternator. If it has been fitted to a +ve earth car - it may well be damaged/burned out now...... You can keep the control box in place 'for show' but it serves no useful purpose when running an alternator, and the alternator wiring doesn't go through the control box.
