I have a 1954 splitscreen nearing the end of a complete restoration. I prepared the headlining with help from forum tips, with trepidation we offered it to the roof and to our amazement the hoops went in the channels very easily, the job was almost finished within half an hour but our euphoria was quickly dampened when we realized that there was not enough material to cover the rear posts. I ordered the correct lining from ESM for a 1953 on splitscreen with small window. I contacted Newton Commercial who made the lining, after looking at pics that I e mailed them, they felt that ESM had sent the wrong lining, I therefore went back to ESM and ordered another lining content that this HSL725 Small widow lining would be the correct one but no, it was exactly the same has the original. ESM and Newton do not seem to grasp that on the small window models more material is needed to cover the area between the rear door aperture and the rear screen. Unfortunately when I bought my splitscreen the lining had been removed except for the front board and the first hoop. Has anybody else had this problem and if so how have you overcome it. Any help would be greatly appreciated

I got mine for a 2 door 1955 saloon from Newton and all fitted ok. Here is a couple of pics, the creases soon disappear.

I see new door cards and rear card, together with the door straps in the right colour, where to buy all?
My headlining is still the original triplex wood, without an option to get somewhere a new cover... :x

I acquired suitable material for a similar early wooden headlining, albeit a few years ago. I think it came from Edgware Motor Supplies

Yes, wooden headlining was in the early MM, as far I know all the side valve versions should be original with wood sections.
One wide in the middle, two smaller on the sides, and one small under the rear window.
I have seen more cars from the age till 1951 with wood ;)
I think they stopped with it a few years later with the series 2, but maybe Mike Perry knows it better.

Its a hard board type covered in cloth, 2 narrows bits at each side and a wide bit in the middle.

Heres a pic of the headlining as fitted to my s11 traveller, 3 small bits at the front up to the join in the cab roof and a large section that covers all of the back. The one fitted to the early saloon is also 3 piece but runs the length of the roof with a piece under the back window[frame]Image[/frame]

As regards the original posting about headclothes for s11's, Ive only fitted them on 1000 but Im likely to be helping fit one on a 54 quite soon so hopefully James has the right one for his.

All the cards, headlining and pull handle came from Newton and yes as David says there is a card which fits across the rear under the window, this covers the headlining tension wires. Of course there is a wooden bit at the front as well.

So - not really 'wooden'. Even my Morris 8E had a cloth headlining!
