I have just finished welding in a new sill and re-welding the new sill that the previous owner replaced. He seems to have painted the weld with a rubbery coating. Can anyone advise what this is? It seems a good idea as it gets right into any crannies and completely covers the weld so should stop any water ingress.
If it is a good idea though, should that be painted straight onto the weld, or should I go with something like Hammerite first, then this rubbery stuff?
Thanks,
Adam.

That'll be seam sealer - http://www.frost.co.uk sell it if you can't find it locally. The order to put the finish on is primer (aluminium?)/seamsealer/paint.
