CARPET SETS

Post by lencot76 »

On the way to our son`s ,I collected a set of carpets from Coverdale and I hope to start fitting them in today.First impressions are, they seem good value for money, but to get what you pay for .I would have liked to see binding, round the accelerator and clutch pedal holes, also the rear ash tray holes.I have someone who makes carpets for me and I thought I would try the Coverdale ones,as they work out quite a bit cheaper. However after I fit them in,I will post a result,to how they look.I was goingthe cost of buying a length of carpet plus the binding. This would have been about the same cost as the Coverdale set. Then there is the cost of having them made.

As you say, you get what you pay for. Don't forget that a Morris Minor was a cheap mass produced car which cost about £500 brand new! The original carpets were not bound.

I would like to be able to buy a de lux set of carpets made with a better quality material and with all the edges bound and a good fit over the gearbox and tunnel. It might not be original but it would look good

Coverdale do a range of carpets, the one I chose, was the cheapest. After fitting the carpets I am happy with the result. As I said a before, they cost less than buying the carpet roll and having them made. Not much more to do ,just trying to get the front screen in

I`ve added more photos with the seats in place .I redyed the seat, which have come out as new.I have used dye in the past to refresh tired seats and door cards. You can even change the colour of the seats with it.

The dye is spirit based and is available ,from Bradley Smart. If you need a particular colour blending then you send a samlpe of the material you wish it to be matched to.If you want a standard colour, bring up PAL charts on your PC and they will match that British Standard colour. To do the seats door card and all the vinyl trim, you need about 1 Ltr standard colour is £26.50 It must be applied with a spray gun, kfor beast results.Giving several light coats of dye, letting each coat dry ,before applying the next one.I think the charge for matching is £12.50 a Ltr Len

I forgot to mention,Bradleys recommend the seats are treated in their "undercoat " first, but I find that giving the seats etc a good clean with a rag and cellulose thinners gives a good base for the dye.The secret is though,to give light spray coats and let each coat really dry, before applying the next one

I'd like to be able to buy an original style unbound set of carpets in either of the two patterns used but have to be content with making up my own as and when I need a set...
I don't suppose anyone knows when they changed from the separate footwell mats to the laterone piece across the front and one across the rear footwell style. I've got original samples from 1963 (early type) and 1971 (later type). Just wondered...
cheers
