Anyone know this car?

We are currently looking for another Morris for my girlfriend. Ideally a good condition saloon for up to £5k (Which I thought would get an almost perfect car but the ones I have seen so far have been quite far from it)

This one stuck out to me (being into my modified cars and she loves the look of it too) but i noticed on the DVLA tax check site it still appears as a 800cc. Would this turn you off or anything else that stands out to you guys?

Unmolested 803cc Series II cars are becoming scarce, so if it is in good condition it would be advisable to keep it as original as possible although an upgrade to 948cc is generally concidered acceptable

It's a bit late to keep that one original I think. Modified cars are a personal thing and the more you personalise a car the smaller the market is when you want to sell it so it might not be easy to sell. From the photos it looks in good condition and if it appeals to you why not go and have a look? It depends what you want to use it for but such a car might not be great as an everyday car?

As you say, £5000 ought to buy you a very good saloon but some sellers are very unrealistic about the value (and condition!) of their cars at sale time.

Mike, I think you need to take another look at the ad

Ace, if the engine change hasn't been recorded you would just need to notify DVLA of the new capacity and serial number. And make sure this agrees with what you tell your insurers.

We recently purchased a Series MM with a 1098 engine which was still recorded as having the original engine on the logbook. I updated this when sending back the new keepers section and have received an updated logbook now showing 1098. No questions asked. Not sure if I got lucky or if it was meant to be this easy..

Purely personal but I think it's a fantastic looking car with some extra punch... :D

I guess you'd have to buy it as a car you like rather than an investment you can drive though.

As the advert says - "you have got to worry about the rust " - and I wonder just why he had to change the head gasket ??? Alarm bells ringing loudly ! Certainly way over priced for what it is - as most seem to be on ' Car and Classic' .

Already sold anyways :(

This is the next one on the list to look at. Something doesn't quite seem right to me (not that I can put my finger on it) but it is quite local so worth a look i guess

This car was recently on ebay for £3000 so anyone paying £4600 has paid too much IMHO

The number plate is wrong for a 1960 car.
A reg is for 1963.

I stand to be corrected here, but i don't think that is necessarily 'dodgy' per se. I believe that for a period, some years ago, if cars with pre-suffix registrations had their registration number sold, the replacements issued were often 'A' suffixed. So it's possible the original reg of this car was sold and it has been re-registered with the 'correct' plate for the time.

Not dodgy, but not quite right either.

The information above is correct. In the late 70's, early 80's 'they' decided that all old style reg number transfer vehicles would get an A reg replacement. They will now issue an age related replacement to a 1963 or older car, by request. *** YUY being an example.

Good spot!

I think it is the location of the photos that is making me a bit wary (plus the fact i know Edmonton and don't ever really want to go there again). For the amount of Morris' for sale there seems to be a lack of honest looking cars around here. I did see a nice 948 only a few miles down the road but it did need paint and after a test drive realised the 948 is a bit too slow for our needs and the clutch needed replacing (hence looking for 1098 and bigger now).

The search continues I think. I am buying the car for my girfriends 24th birthday and she really misses the Morris she had as her first car (and did over 15,000 in 3 years in). It was a cheap car at the time and suffered from rust all over, so this time I really want to get the best one I can afford so she can keep it a long time and really treasure.

..there's a blue (smoke grey?) 4 door saloon in Herts on C&C for £3.5k that looks clean enough from the photo's?
