I have a replacement indicator stalk to fit. Is it a case of removing steering wheel to remove cowl in order to get to fixing clamp bolts. Any tips or advice greatly received. :D

On a 1961 car yes, you will have to remove the steering wheel (having first removed the hornpush) and then the bakelight cowl to get to the indicator stalk.

The wiring is probably secured by the column clamp which will also have to be undone and you'll probably have to remove the glovebox liner to gain access to the wiring unless you can get at it all from below.

Thank you ManyMinors. Got hold of a 3/4W box spanner (32mm or thereabouts!!) and the nut was just nipped up. Expecting a trouble getting the wheel of, a little wiggle and pull and hey presto!!
'New one' which I think may be NOS has PVC sleeving instead of braided sleeve from later car has an extra black wire (earth) fitted perfectly but instead of a 'stud' which contacts the brass inner sleeve has a single hole in a beryllium copper spring. After a little turned brass part on the lathe we are back in business. So thank you for you help. :D :D
