Could that be the 'parking light switch'? It switches off the instrument lights in an attempt to save battery power so you can just leave the side lights on when parked on a dark road.

Side Lights:- check all the red wires and bullet connectors and the black earth wires and earthing points. Swap bulbs over, check for rusty light units

Cheers Mike but my wiring loom seems to be all the same colour under the outer sheathing! Original wiring I guess.
I will get there.
Thanks mate.

Sounds like time for a modern plastic covered wiring loom

I fitted a new loom to the MM this year as its was all faded to black and getting very brittle. I had bought the loom about 6 years ago and its been in the boot for ages....... Anyway what prompted me to finally do it was being out at an evening rally with the head lights on and having a electrical warm sort of smell coming from the dash.

I started also with mounting a new loom, I bought one with the classic cover, not the plastic cover.
The old one was also too bad , some isolation had to be repaired, and I like to have him as original as possible.
Because my time machine is still not working, and the job is taking so much time, every week or month I make some steps.
My other option was to use some boxes with wires from my company, and make the complete loom by myself, but we have only a few colours in stock.
And only plastic covers is not what I like.
two weeks ago I was at the location for the switch, and found out he was broken, until then I did not know he was there ;)
