Have found that I have lost continuity ,between the ignition switch and the control box,so a wire has come adrift somewhere.How do I get to the rear of the ignition switch ,to reroute another wire,or find the break.
Also in the workshop manual ,it says to fit the chrome trim into the screen seal,berfore fitting the screen in.Is this normal?

If you have the original stainless type finisher then yes..If you have the plastic chrome type, this is fitted after the screen is in using a screen beading tool and roller.

To access the rear of the switch, remove the speedo. Disconnect the battery first, then look in the gloveboxes for a round hole on the sides near the speedo. Insert a crosshead screwdriver and feel around to engage with the speedo retaiing screws. Loosen, do not remove, and then withdraw the speedo. When tracing the wires, you may also need to remove the glovebox liner on the driver's side.

As for the 'lost connection' - does nothing at all work ? If so - it will be the Brown wire from the solenoid - check it is cleanly connected at the solenoid, and is on the same terminal as the heavy battery cable... Otherwise - Check the back of the Regulator box - the connection there may have rotted. A quick check would be to join the A and A1 terminals to see if that restores power to the Ign and lighting etc circuits. See the excellent wiring diagram at the head of this section.
