I'm trying to get the black underseal off the underside of the wings as it is patchy and flaked in places, I have tried petrol, gunk and white spirit's all with limited success, is there any solution to get the stuff off easier, many thanks in anticipation. Stephen.

May be best removed dry, with an old wood chisel.

Hot air paint stripper gun - and careful scraping.

Hi Stephen, i found using a blunt wood chisel gets the thick stuff off and then a wire brush in an electric drill to finish off, it is time consuming dirty and definitely the worst job to do on a minor.it might be easier to remove the wing from the car and lay it on some old carpet to protect the paint and the bonus is you can clean and paint the flange as well, good luck Graham. just read bmc,s idea, i would not recommend using heat if you want to save the paint on the outside of the wing!!

BMC has the right idea, soften with a hot air gun and the stuff comes of nice and easy. Not the nicest aroma though so try and do it outside.

I outsourced the job. Went to the local shotblasting people. Not too dear, a good few years back. Didn't fancy the hard graft or the noxious fumes.

I went for a mask and careful application of heat with a blow torch and using a paint scraper. Horrible job.
