Tyre pressure.

I don't know if this point has been covered, just thought it may be of interest. Recently checked my tyre pressure at the local Tesco garage. Set the pressure and everything went ok.
Then went off to visit, but the steering still felt funny. Finally I drove to ATS, and they checked and found that the pressure was too low. They mentioned that the likes of Tesco, Morrisons, etc do not have their pressure sensors calibrated, and they are always +/- 10 psi. He told me of someone who had a similar problem, where one tyre had 60 psi, the other 28 psi !

I still use an old fashioned pencil type gauge which seems more reliable and consistant than using somebody elses :)

Me too! Even bought a highly expensive but genuine GPO one from Sparesman at the national this year - it's particularly accurate at 24 & 28 psi (Post-office recommended van tyre pressures). Do you think I am loosing the plot?

Il keep my eye for a pencil type pressure gauge then, will hopefully get on old one from a car boot sale. I bought father and I a race calibrated pressure gauges for car trialing last year and they read 2 psi out at 12 psi to each other. I bought a draper one that reads 8 psi out and my original one I let down to 10psi to get 12psi. It can make the difference between cleaning and failing a section. Tho you wouldn't know.

Try to buy as clean a one as you can find cos they do wear out - then try to keep it clean! (probably not easy if you are trialling, been there, done it and got a mucky t-shirt). Mine came in a sealable tube to keep it in - GOOD idea!
What do you trial?

Iv got an x90 these days, had a marlin before and a rusty beetle before that, but needed a car I could also run around in. Plus it's nice and reliable tho isn't quite the same.[frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame]

Iv also got a Rickman Ranger for PCTS. What did you trial then?

Sorry, lost track on this thread what with Christmas etc so

1. Greendefender123 : it is popularly known as the "Wandering Blob"

2. Sorry irmscher, but my grasp of technology is not up to photos. I'll try to remember to fetch it from the garage tomorrow and get the makers name off it - it would not suprise me if they were not still made.
