What resistance should I be seeing across coil connections please?

3.2 ohms for a normal Minor coil. :D You're not doubting your coil - I hope..... :o

I would never doubt the coil Roy although mine "appears" to be open circuit and I'm not getting any power to the dizzy

Oh dear....it does sometimes happen. You know well that my exhortations are there simply to make folks consider other possibilities before blinding renewing the coil every time the engine splutters.

Of course, although I can't complain, it's only 55 years old

Roy's 3.2 Ohms is for the primary circuit ,read from the 2 low tension terminals.( typical 3 / 3.5 range for a non ballasted coil ).
The Secondary circuit reading Black lead to the ( HT KIng lead ) tower connection and the Red lead to the + Low Tension connection... the reading should be circa 5 Ohms.
Just writing for others on the Forum who are not familiar. Acknowledging that the information re the exact problem has moved on !

The secondary is actually more likely to be ~ 10K ohms.....(+/- 5K). Certainly not 5 ohms!
