I am going to replace my choke cable,the old one is quite stiff.I have tried to lubricate it,but I would rather fit a new one in.Do you have to remove the silver centre bit ,to get to the nut holding the outer cable in

Can't you just remove the fabric glove box and undo the nut, then the complete cable should pull out.

I think from memory ( mine's very poor ) it is as Les says. Having disconnected at the carb end , access the back of the pull handle and remove the nut behind the dash.

Disconnect the battery because you will be working with a spanner near live unfused terminals. Are you sure the cable is tight? Disconnect it from the carb - is it still tight?

When you fit the new cable don't forget to twist the end of the inner cable with a pair of pliers when you clamp it up on the choke lever. This will hold the choke out when you set it. The other method of course is the wooden clothes peg

New cables seem hideously expensive, are generic replacement ones suitable?
