Thanks for all your tips, took Annie to nice man who says I have to get lots of parts and he may be able to fix it or may not. I now have a list from the nice man - including heater water valve and heater motor - any good ideas where I can get these?

I live in Lancashire bytheway, so the nearer the better.

The heater valves are available from any of the specialists and if you need a heater motor its probably just as cheap to buy a whole second hand unit from somewhere like ebay.

If your car is later than 1963 then Owen may have a heater you could have. He was the guy who had to scrap his convertible See 'psuedo bids for owens wings' in the general section.

What would the reaction be if a three speed( proper speeds)not the asthmatic 2 speeders , 6KW heater was made available. Not to the same design as the Minor one but nevertheless discreet and extreamly effective. The heaters feature screen demist vents and rotary vents for the car heating

I'm sure that at the right price the reaction would be very favourable. If it could be placed behind the facade of the old heater (to keep the original look) and be easily fitted then I'm sure you would be onto a winner. In my opinion THE worst aspect of driving the Minor in Winter is it's inability to demist anything until the engine has been running for ages.

A more effecient 3 speed heater would be great, especially if it could be housed in the original casing, or perhaps a sympathetically designed new one.

This shouldn't be too difficult. It could sit under the glove box in a plate similar to the strengthening panels found on convertibles.

If the heater is required to look similar to the original we will need to redesign the unit. I can give a costing on what is available now, on monday.
I can imagine that the lookalike heaters will need to be on an exchange basis. Will keep you posted

I don't think most people would be bothered by originality looking persay, but would probably find it easier to fit a heater which fitted in the original casing. I'm not particulary bothered anyway since you know what sort of plans I have in mind ;)

Out of interest, who did the heater adaptation on the Hobbis' traveler? I know that had air conditioning, but it looked pretty nicely done to me

We built Richard's traveller, the air con was farmed out to a so called specialist who performed a pretty shoddy job, and the system was never fully functional. The vent system was a bespoke design. I think the idea of two additional side vents, can be done sympathetically. I'm sure that we can adapt the original heater casing to accomodate the uprated matrix and blower. Depends on cost, as to whether this will be a sound move commercially. I'll do some work on both systems tommorow and hopefully come up with some ball park figures

Very true. The people who are after originality will stick with the original heater.

Well I can't personally see much point buying & fitting a new component like a heater unless it retains the original look and does a better job than the original. For those of you who want a modern heater/demister and aren't bothered about how it looks then you might as well go to a scrap yard and get one for almost nothing from any basic modern car.

As for price, well I admit baulking at the £150+ already being asked for a mini's two speed heater! I would much prefer to see cheaper components being made which allow you to uprate the existing heater (i.e a faster motor, or a method of closing off the fresh air to allow recirculation of the air in the cabin). And for those of us relying on a dynamo, it may well be that the power drawn by any modern heater will be too high for the system to cope with.
