Hi,
My new engine has started to make a tapping sound which gets faster with engine speed and I'm pretty certain is coming from the rocker box. It disappears once the engine has warmed up. I'm assuming that it's a tappet that needs adjusting. I haven't really got time to check the tappets until tomorrow, will I be okay driving the car tonight? The performance hasn't changed at all, it's just the noise.
Also, I've done about 100 miles so far since fitting the engine and haven't driven it over 30mph. Will it be okay at this point to take it up to 40?
Thanks,
James

Re: Tappet Noise
how do you go about adjusting the tappets? haven't done it for yonks. seem to remember "rule of 9"
does that mean 1 and 8, 2 and 7 and so on? do you adjust 1 when 8 is up or down, or the other way around?

Re: Tappet Noise
Yes, you use the one in 9 rule to adjust them. I.e. set 1 when 8 is fully down/open. I always use the table in the manual though since they're listed in the order that will take the least time and I always forget what that is!ampwhu wrote:how do you go about adjusting the tappets? haven't done it for yonks. seem to remember "rule of 9"
