'Lady ' just called to say she was collecting for Children in Need. Thought that was tomorrow...no badge or credentials. Said we only did our favourite charities, local hospice etc. Got an unbelievable torrent of abuse. Seems I abuse children ( hers) and dogs ( mine). Obvious scam and I've reported it. Upsetting and could be worse for our ( even) older neighbours. Quite a horrible experience...might get myself a whisky!

Should have kicked them to death on the doorstep.

I believe that a recent law makes cold calling door stepping illegal, which includes "charities".
I suspect your caller was not genuine.

I had two women supposedly collecting used clothing for starving people in Syria knock at the door . I told them that if my clothes fitted them they are definitely not starving Two days later I saw them in a transit van with bags and bags of clothes outside a recycling shop unloading

If they have not got accredited ID then close the door. Some of these creatures will even steal clothes bags labelled for genuine charities

Worry is of course - they may damage/scratch your car on the way out.... Nasty business. After reading all about the HUGE salaries paid to most 'charity' Chief Execs - I only now give to Salv Army and Red Cross. The 'charity' collectors on the street and in shopping centres keep AT LEAST 50% of everything they collect. Long gone are the days of the volunteer collectors (except Salv Army of course). And many anonymous 'charity shops' only give 1p in the Pound to charity - the other 99p goes on wages and 'expenses'.... So again - only the well recognised shops ever see my business -even then...it's with grave doubts....

Salvation Army exec on £150k salary - Christ was more akin to a Buddhist, didn't walk around wearing a mitre, nor advocate wealth - I only donate to Animal Aid and our local Wildlife Rescue.

As for HfH....

We pretty much do all our charitable donation by means of hours spent volunteering these days. At least you can see a result for your efforts.

I allways donate to the charity crisis at xmas
there are a lot not so lucky to have a bed and dinner and people around them at xmas so give a thought to them homeless while you eat your xmas dinner
