Unfortunately that won't stop the document being used to change a stolen cars identity.

Just asked the seller "What possible use is this other than for re registering a stolen vehicle or fraudulently changing the identity of a Morris?". He came straight back: "Up to the buyer what they choose to do with it."
Can't see a way of reporting this to Ebay, wonder if DVLA are interested?

I wonder how long before this car number is attached to a car for sale, I wonder if the DVLA have guide lines on this as i always pressumed that if i had log books and VIN numbers and no cars i looked like some kind of criminal, Or has the world changed.
Just to note looking through the sellers history he sells older car parts and there are a few minor parts sold, i wonder where the shell and running gear went?

Oo could save loads of hours welding for someone. Unfortunately its the same with the land rovers, they put series plates on defenders and claim they're hybrids. Beetles aswell. My cousin said its the same with Minis. Hard for them to police unfortunately.

There is a "Report Item" link to the right of the Description and Postage & Payments tabs.
Don't know what response it would get from Ebay though, couldn't see anything in the help section.

If the body is the same shape and a different set of numbers are stuck on, how do you tell ? Do any of us know if our cars are genuine ?

This is WHY I collect BODY/CAB numbers - THREE Duff's discovered this past week.....think that's a record!

Yet people STILL spend £1000s based upon information
only held on by self tappers....

Les, know your number(s) - your van is NOT a duff!

The good thing is that the more people chat about potential ringers using the vehicle reg number then the numbers will be on web sites and forums like this, I have just googled that car number and found it links me to this site and topic, so maybe a database of potential dodgy cars can be made at some point, What would be really usefull is if a few sites got together and local selected memebers could go out and look a car over for a smal fee and give guidance like those people do for insurance values in certain collector car sites. just a thought....

I have emailed DVLA and asked if they have any way of bringing pressure on Ebay to prevent this sort of listing. I'll let you know when they respond. Don't hold your breath.....

This thread is metamorphosing into the 'Q' plate concern.

And we wonder why DVLA are interested in vehicles having the correct age related components/details.

They'll be more, it's like trying to erase every rude word from every toilet wall. Impossible! Anyone know what book that sentiment comes from ?

What pixxes me off is that sometimes it can take over a year for me to gather enough evidence to satisfy the DVLA a car's a good 'un - STILL on one I started 18mths ago - yet someone can buy an id off eBay and drive a cloan/duff within a day of receiving it!

Actually got a reply from DVLA, but not overly reassuring...

"Thank you for your email received on 9/11/15. Your email reference number is 3365705.

Whilst I appreciate your concerns and thank you for bringing matters such as these to our attention, I am afraid that the DVLA cannot govern what is advertised for sale on the Internet or via other media sources.

DVLA does write to all reported Internet sites informing them of the unlawful sale of tax discs or VIN plates and V5C Registration Certificates. However, we can only make a note of the transaction on the vehicle record when a customer informs us of the misconduct and states the vehicle registration number concerned. I can assure you that DVLA will continue to do everything it can to prevent the illegal trading of government documents on the Internet, however, DVLA continues to be restricted to the amount of action it can take.

In cases where the vehicle registration number is provided, DVLA can place a marker to automatically block any transaction from taking place. This would mean that cases could be thoroughly investigated to prevent any illegal activities from taking place"

I think that sounds encouraging. It states that the sale of these documents is illegal and that is grounds for reporting to EBay who must then withdraw it. If DVLA then put a marker on....
