Hi Guys

First post so let me introduce myself, My name is Kevin and i run a family garage in sunderland. We have a regular customer that has just approached us asking what she could do with her old morris traveler that has sat untouched in her garage for the last 15 years !

I believe it is a 1970 Morris traveler in light green, It was her daily car until her then husband decided to change the OSF wing one afternoon ! So he put it into the garage and started the swop... Long story short the new wing is on but the car never seen the light of day again due to one reason or another and their marriage broke down shortly after.

The car is complete but the front grill and replaced wing is not secured down fully and the head lights are in a box in the car as is the radiator. Ran and drove the day before it was put into the garage but 15 years have since passed.

She has very sadly just lost her son and is selling the family home to get away from everything ! so the morris has to go ! Can you guys recommend the best thing to do ? or would anyone on here be willing to buy the vehicle for a fair price and undertake the task of returning her to her former glory ? Seems such a shame to let her go for scrap...

I have just popped along for a look and she is a fine looking morris, light green paint is old but no signs of any rot on any body pannels, the wood looks original and in fantastic condition, the interior is all there and has no visible tares etc... under the bonnet the engine and bay is very clean and tidy indeed ! Stuck my head underneath and the floors will need a little work and the suspension arms are rusted but not rotten so i am sure it is a great car for a mild restoration ?

If anyone is interested please let me know and i will put you in touch with the owner or speak to you myself, I am not trying to make anything out of the deal, simply trying to help a lovely lady and long time customer and possible new morris owner.

Thanks
Kev

Thanks for posting this up. Is it possible for you to put up some pictures of the car as I'm certain someone will be interested - also an idea of it's location and maybe a contact number?

Hi, the photos above are the only ones i could get as the car has slowly been covered, filled and blocked in by the familys personal possessions over the years.

Feel free to call me on my work number 01915676462, I wont put the ladys contact details up just yet as she is very upset about the loss of her son so i dont think she will be wanting many calls at the moment, plus she doesnt know much about the vehicle and i can answer most questions better having just been to see the car.

Please ask for "kevin jnr" as we have two kevin's and it can get confusing :D

The car is located approx 1 mile from my garage in sunderland.

Mayfair service station
Durham road
Sunderland
SR2 7PD

Thanks
kev

Could you guys all put your feed back on here as to how much we should hope to achieve price wise for this vehicle ?

I would hate to let it go to cheap but at the same time dont want to ask to much.

Thanks
Kevin

I'll make a stab.
Given it has been standing 15 years, needs some work and re-commissioning, plus I can only work from the photographs.
If I was going to look at this traveller locally I would set out expecting to pay somewhere between £800 and £1500 for the car, from the information I have.
Sorry that is a wide range, trying to help, but it might be needing plenty of welding underneath, hence my thoughts, as of today.

indeed there are many unknowns so i understand it could only ever be a ball park figure, so thanks for that.

It would be nice to see £1500 for the lady and that was my gut value when seeing the car but it was only ever a guess as i know so little about the market for these.

Just out of interest what would she be worth after a nice resto ? Having restored a few old yanks (mustangs/trucks) i understand it will cost more to restore than it would likely be worth at the end but we do these things for the love not the profit...

I'd guess a mint one being worth between 6 and 8 thousand ?

Hi Kev
You are in the right ballpark with those figures for a 'mint' one, although you will see them being advertised above that by dealers, and probably some of them do get sold, eventually.
Time of year makes a difference. Prices seem strongest from May to August, when the market appears to have the most interested buyers.
As you say, it may cost more in renovation to get it to 'mint' condition than it would sell for, but you would have a lovely traveller to add to your list! 8)

Set your apprentice to work with a tin of colour restorer and that paint should come up a treat

Hi Just to let you know the morris sold to a local chap for £1600 ! The owner wanted it to go to someone local so she could see the vehicle once restored and maybe even go for one last drive, so she is over the moon.

Might help with the value if another one comes along in a similar condition.

Thanks for your time and help.
