It seems a white with red wire goes to the solenoid. I have bought a new harness from ESM but no white with red wires but there is white with black wires, could this have replaced the original white with red?. Any help would be greatly appreciated Stu

No - white with black is the wire from coil -ve to dizzy. Ask ESM ! What year car did you specify ? Early cars didn't have a solenoid...

Thank you bmcecosse. I phoned ESM because it dawned on me I have bought the correct harness for my 1954 splitscreen offside speedo, of course that should have been the pull start, (no white with red wire) but mine is key start therefore I will have to run a wire from the ignition switch to the solenoid, could you please confirm and also which terminal on the ignition switch will it come off. Stu

Well - you will have an unused terminal on the switch - so that's the one ! :D

Thank you but if I remember rightly. Red goes to 1, Brown and blue to 3 and White x 2 goes to 2 can't place a spare terminal.

If it is a key start ignition switch - it MUST have a spare terminal, that is only energised when you tun the key against the spring loading.
