In order to replace the brake master cylinder, do I need to remove the peddle assembly?

I refitted the peddles over the weekend and started to fit the master cylinder tonight but Im struggling to get the angle to get the pushrod in. A quick read of the haynes manual and it now looks like Ive done this in reverse order.

No need to remove the pedals at all.

If you push the pedal down it should bring the push rod up, slip the mastercylinder onto this and then push the whole thing down into the chassis leg. Ive found if you use a new cylinder that they are a very tight fit in the chassis and they need some help from a hammer!

That was part of the problem David, it was hell of a tight. Thought Id done something wrong. This is what happens when you let other builds get in the way and take 17 years to rebuild a Moggie!

I have heard of someone grinding a slight bit off the side to get it in. I found with the cap off and your thumb in there and a bit of grease on the side that it went in with a few taps on the end of it.

After 17 years you will be looking forward to driving it!!

Can I ask a related question here having had a new master cylinder fitted this week.

How do I install new bushes to the brake pedal which rocks from side to side. Not had a look at the job but got the bushes in stock. Can I take the pedal off without removing the master cylinder?
