High compression

Post by Orinoko »

Hi,my 1098 66 traveller is showing 190psi across all 4 cylinders.
Has not been skimmed or have a lot of carbon build up.
It is an export model.
It doesnt pink under load either.

Any ideas please.

Faulty gauge.....190 psi is not realistic.

Orinoko,

Where are you? If anywhere near Oxford we could compare the readings with my compression gauge - if the same OK, if not maybe the gauge?

Thanks for your kind suggestions.
Have tried a professional gauge (snap on) this morning and got 185psi across all 4
It starts and runs fine with no sign of pinking.
Maybe i should just leave alone.

Indeed - but it is incredibly high - the head must have been heartily skimmed and/or flat top pistons fitted !
