Hi Guys,
Can anyone tell me the correct size socket to fit the rear hub bearing nut so I can go and buy one.

Cheers, Steve

1-7/8" AF fits OK, thats what I used. They are expensive I got mine on a special offer from Baconsdozen. Google it.

The three offered are all 3/4" square drive.
If you do decide to buy a socket go for the six sided variety as you will get a better grip on the nut which is very thin.

This is a better bet:-

or this - I bought one of these spanners quite recently from Australia.

The loading on the nut with the two above spanners is in the correct plane - with the socket the face that fits over the nut is usually recessed and needs to be ground flat so as to grip the nut without rounding the corners - not so with the two spanners above.
Even though I have the correct and ground socket the two spanners above are a much better bet.
The 1 - 7/8" A/F spanner is usually supplied in 3/4" square drive so you will need access to a 3/4" drive socket set or a 1/2" to 3/4" adapter. I have the adapter as I have little use for a 3/4" drive socket set.

Hi Steve, I struggled for ages with sockets on hub nuts and before I did any more damage I ordered one of the Aussie spanners. Brilliant! Nuts loosened easily with a bit of hammer assistance. Good service from the supplier. Cheers, Peter.

I can vouch for the Australian spanner too. So much easier with the right tool.
Best wishes, Colin.

The correct size socket / spanner is actually 1 & 1/8 Whitworth but as others have said 1 & 7/8 AF is a good fit
