Morris Minor Owners Club

We have a 1964 traveller that has been sat for some years. I have removed the carburettor and cleaned old fuel out- Does any one know of any chemical/ cleaner to clean out the fuel tank. I have removed the drain plug and nothing came out- when I inserted a piece of wire there is a brown wax left. Look forward to any ideas.
