I think i have a mechanical problem with my indicator stalk, as it will cancel itself as normal when yopu indicate right. However when you indicate left even when you turn the wheel right it doesent cancel. Can anyone give me any ideas onto go about fixing it.

You need to get the steering wheel and indicator cowling (Black section) off to view the mechanism. You will see that the indicator stalk is effectively a three position rocker switch. in either left or right mode there is a bulge that faces in towards the steering column. On the column shroud is a adjustable screwhead. When the wheel is turned this moves past the bulge pushing it and returning the indictor to the central 'cancel' position.
There are 3 probable ways this gizmo goes out of adjustment.
1. The 2 long bolts and chrome heads that hold the column to the bottom of the dashboard have loosened allowing the column shroud to rotate or retract.
2. The screws holding the indicator stalk to the column have loosened allowing it to rotate or retract.
3. The adjustable screw head has been lost or needs adjusting outward.
Fixing it is fiddly as there are three elements to get right. The for/aft position of the column shroud, it's rotation and the rotation of the indicator.
Being completely familiar with it's operation and how and why all of the fixings are where they are before you try to fix it is the only way to get it right.

cancelling in one direction is also a symptom of having the colum removed and replaced in the wrong place. However if it still doesn't cancel when you take it to full lock then it will either be alignment of the part as mentioned above or just a completely worn out indicator switch.
