Has anyone used this, I have ordered some and it seems good on first test, i was thinking of using it in hard to reach places on my mini project, it claims to treat the rust and becone a primer. any thoughts?

They all do....and are no use for anything other than surface scratches -that sort of thing. If the rust is coming through from behind - and/or is 'crunchy' - it needs welding, not treating!

Yeah iv used it. Ideal for repairs. Iv done a couple of test pieces on my road car and so far so good. But its still only a rust treatment. Nothing can beat new metal. It seals it well tho.

@bmcecosse, i am only using it for area that have very mild pitting, not any areas that are weak or rusted through, and @greendefender123, it seems ok as a teatment on little bits so far.

Try to get as much rust off the item you are treating as you can cos it will not penetrate thick rust, it only forms a skin of ferric tanate at the surface and because it has polymers in it, it then forms a skin so it is no good going back and trying another coat when it is dry! It is much better than nothing cos at least you can paint over it and the rust won't come throught the paint quite so quickly!

@TFM150K, thats pretty much it "better than nothing" in the hard to reach roof section around the screens and door pillars, where the primer and paint has never got into before properly, i have a probe camera i might try and get before and after pictures posted.

After seeing it recommended on here, I tried Mcklords rust preventer treatment which is applied in two operations 24 hrs apart and is working very well. Tried it on my modern in patches which stands outside all the time, and despite not painting them yet are completely sealed from the elements. Expensive though.

@midget, I think the vactan works out to be around £15 a litre, today i also used ot on some cast iron parts from the garden before painting them with top coats and i was quite happy witht he results, i will check out the Mcklords online and maybe try that at some point.

I used Rust Buster FE-123 on all my rust and worked OK for me

Could I just remind you that whichever of these treatments you use, the rust should be minimised as much as possible (wire brush or whatever you can get in to the area) and the rust MUST BE ABSOLUTELY DRY AS A BONE or you are only going to trap the wet under whatever coating your chosen product forms! Then of course the rust will continue to eat away the car under cover of the new paint that you have just spent all your pocket-money on.....
