Hi, I have recently purchased my Morris Minor 2 door saloon and noticed after a heavy down pour that the carpet in the near side rear passenger footwell was soaking wet. I removed the floor coverings and dried it out. We have had several down pours since and no water!

However today it persisted again and low and behold a puddle of water. There are no holes in the floor or body work and the door seams to be a good fit. There is a little bit of perished rubber on the door seal in line with the door handle but that is true of the drivers side too.

Any ideas where I should look for the source of this water ingress?

It could be either be water seeping through the washer jets where they enter the body work , mine does that when I wash her sometimes. or possibly where the windscreen wiper spindles enter the body work...whoops just re read the post and realized it's the rear Doh !!!!

Usually the side window rubbers - and/or the rear window . Lift the rear seat base and check under there too...

sometimes it is a mystery with water in a car. Often it does not come in where you thought it could. Is it wet on other places then the floor ? look at all window seals. Where could the water run down to the floor. Signs of water at the dashboard? Drops somewhere at the dashboard. Is the headlining dry? Is water standing in the sides of the engine bay where normally wiper motor or fuel pump is located? look behind the lining on the sides down near the a-post.

Thank you for your input. I have lifted the rear seat, no signs of damp, taken the rear near side panel card off, still no signs of damp, removed the horizontal card under the rear seat, no signs of damp! Even the carpet covering the rear internal cill on the passenger door threshold doesn't appear to be wet! Perhaps I should try the smoke test!

You need to find out if the water is coming in when the car is stood in the rain or if it is only when being driven in the rain.
First drown the car with a hose from above to simulate rain. If no leak try soaking it from below at all angles. If still no leak then it must be being blown in with air pressure as you are driving along. You will need to drive it in a downpour to prove this.
Good luck, always a problem finding leaks.

I would buy some captain tolleys creeping crack cure and pour a little down the window seals.

When searching for leaks it is of use to put Talc Powder around rubber seals so that you can see where it has got damp.
That will indicate the "start point " of any leak.I can add a recommendation to The Captain Tolley Creeping Crack cure.

When applied it is " Milky" in colour , out of the nozzle , so you can see where it has been applied. It then dries clear. If it
disappears into the crack , it is an indication that more is required , to fill up the gap. Brilliant stuff.

Thanks for your suggestions. I found the source of the water ingress. It's leaking through the rear window rubber in at the top near side corner.

I can address that now and will look to buy a new rubber, the front one has seen better days too.

It's not an easy job to renew the rear window rubber.... Consider the creeping cure first.

Yes, Cpt.Tolleys is excellent for those annoying little creepy leaks. Highly recommended but not a cure for knackered window rubbers.
