Ok so I need some help folks I have broken down today for the second time.[.but the first time ever since I've had her in seven years] the first was just a short distance away after starting her up for the first time today and the second is just now , about 4 hours from the first time .Basically I took her to the cemetery just to tidy things up there which is just half a mile away from my home but I let her running as I would only be 10 mins so wanted to get her warmed up and charge the battery, She stalled and cut out but when I checked the fuel pump the pump body was quite hot to the touch so I left her cool for 20 mins then she started so I drove her the half mile back home .Left her there on the drive for 4 fours then thought I'd take her around the block to see if things had settled down but I only drove her around the streets for about a mile when she cut out again and the same as before, the fuel pump body is quite hot to the touch . So any thoughts folks, she's out on the road at the moment as my garage is up a lane which as a bit of a slope to get to it !!!!

ok here's an update after leaving her for 20 mins she started but only drove 50 yards before stalling again so I popped the bonnet and tapped the pump a few times till the ticking stopped [ it only "ticked" about three times before stopping completely], and tried again , I had to do this twice on a 100 yard stretch but at least I got her back in her home again. So any ideas folks?

Try checking the filter in the pump, it could be blocked with debris from the tank causing fuel starvation. The n do the usual check of disconnecting the fuel line from the carb and pump some fuel into a container to see if the pump is working OK.

You've certainly tied it down to the fuel pump -so as above - clean the filter and the points.. Then do a flow test into a container - it should pump a pint in two minutes.

ok I'll do that but why did the pump get hot?

Because it's sitting with the power flowing through the points - but not pumping. Do the flow test...
