Greetings from Johannesburg, South Africa
I have recently come upon an (approx 1958-59) Minor 1000 Pick-Up with a strange chassis number of "OFH 2/ 94/43".
The present owner thinks this vehicle was at some stage imported into South Africa from Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe).
I have been reliably assured that no Minor Commercials were ever assembled from CKD kits in South Africa. Most were direct imports from the UK. Only the Rhodesian-assembled vehicles we have seen here carry the third letter "H" on their chassis number prefix - denoting "Primer" as the paint reference.
The NMP plate on the floor of the Pick-Up's engine compartment has a rather indistinct number of Z 23340 (or possibly Z 25540). but the second number is totally illegible. The usual number plates high up on the bulkhead are unfortunately missing.
At present the Pick-Up is fitted with an 803cc A-Series engine and rounded-back seats, as per Series II vehicles, but there is no guarantee that these are original.
Could anybody please assist in accurately determining the origins of this vehicle?
