Kick Plate

Hi,
Have removed the kick plate(s) and found inevitable rust which has now been fixed like new!!
Question: The kick plate on my car seems to be sprayed silver. Was this the colour regardless of body shell colour?
My car is 1961 2 door Yukon Grey.

my 68 2 door has silver kick plates and wouldn't be suprised if it's the original paint
