I have just removed the old starter ring,on the flywheel.I read in the general discussion, heat the ring on oposite sides and remove the ring !!!!!!!.I heated it with my Oxy equipement and it took a h####of a job to knock it off.I must be getting weak in my older age. When fitting it,is it as much of a pig to get it on Len
The best method to remove an old knackered starter ring idsto drill a hole through it and give it a whack with a hammer and chisel. To fit the new one first put the flywheel in the freezer for an hour, heat the new ring up evenly, place the flywheel on a flat surface and it should tap on easily.
Oh and make sure you get it on the right way round, with the chamfers on the gearbox side of the flywheel.
I managed to remove old starter ring, but I am having problems fitting new one .I have had the flywheel in the freezer overnight, and I have heated the ring up using my gas welding torsh, but I don` think I am getting it hot enough as I cannot tap it onto the flywheel. Also I have it the correct way round Len
I tried again using the welding torch and I have done it.I think I was worried about getting it too hot ,but gently heating it up all round, then it tapped on ,Thanks for all the replies Len
