rear wood post replacement

The one thing i was worried about with this car when i bought it was the filler at the bottom of the rear, right hand post, eek!
Finally got around to poking around there and its just as bad as thought it would be!!The bottom 4 inches just disintegrated and came off?
So,inspecting adjoining rails im going to do what generally isn't recommended,im going to replace just that post as i love a challenge.
The tenon joins attaching the rails, once all brackets, screws are cut off/unscrewed, are these tenon joins easy enough to force out with a mallet?Or are they glued in?
Once i get around to this mammoth task i'll post back with my experiences as im sure this is a fairly common problem, and a dilemma to do it all the right away at great expense replacing a whole side,or replacing individual pieces.
