Wipers tempremental

When i pull the switch they sometimes,well most of the time dont work,in fact ive had the car for one day,tried several times to work them and nothing,then suddenly when they did go i let them run a while as i had just greased the motor in the engine bay so thought just let them move for a while.
Is pulling the switch just making the circuit and thats it?Might it just be a dirty connection at the switch?

Again - the switch earths the motor to let it run - so maybe a common earth fault with the heater......
