British Leyland manual says EP90 gear oil but I know a lot of people use grease.

I believe that the technique for putting oil in is to unscrew the grease nipple and squirt the oil in with an oil can or whatever you can improvise.

One or two on this site say that they use a mixture of oil and grease -- so there is a third option :o

When I fitted my steering rack gaiters I greased up the rack not onlying for ease of it but also from reading up that the oil doesn't lubricate the top half of the rack if there isn't enough oil in and also when your gaiters split (which they will  ) your going to get an oily mess and no lubrication
