Restoring a 1952 Minor, I have been looking at other minors of similar vintage. I find that the restored cars have two different wheel arch sizes. Can anybody advice the following:- 1) What was the original wheel arch size in a 1952 car. 2) How is it measured exactly
Hope somebody can advice on this.
Regards
Mayur

Hi,
Whilst I can't tell you the measurements, I thought this picture of a 1952 car would help as a visual aid with the rear arches, as they should be well clear of the rear wheel on an early car.
Best wishes,
Mike.

Jethro is a 53 Series II, not sure if these are the original arches but they are well clear of the tyres.

the pics of Jethro by Boomlander appears to have the later morris 1000 rear wings fitted, i have a 1955 series 2 with original rear wings and they are about an inch higher at 12 oclock on the wheel, so what im saying is the distance at the top of the arch on series 2 cars is about an inch less when measured from the top of arch to the rubber bead strip.as far as i know the front wings are same as morris 1000 later cars exept the hole for the side light is smaller. Hope this helps, Graham

Somewhere on the message board, probably on the Series MM section, several years ago, I gave all the dimensions of the rear wings. If anyone can find them........

Well spotted - the bonnet came from a commercial with no side mouldings (Now Fitted).

I note the Pyrene fire extinguisher under the bonnet and on the bulkhead.
If it is useable make sure that you use it in an unenclosed area as the operator can be overcome by the fumes; and if it is useable it is no good being under the bonnet as that is where most fires start - it needs to be easy to hand.
Not withstanding the above I understand that It should not be used under the current environmental regulations and that is why the majority of fire extinguishers now contain water or dry powder.

The Pyrene extinguisher has been adapted as the washer fluid reservoir replacing the old cracked plastic bottle - looks a whole lot better!

Try a search on Ebay for Vintage Fire Extinguisher, but make sure it has its fixing bracket - makes the conversion very easy!

Clever idea. I'll try that on my '53 convertible
As for the orig post, the easiest way to tell is does the wing have about an inch of flat vertical panel directly above the wheel. The earlier high cut arches curve immediately towards the body there, whereas the Minor 1000 ones go straight up for an inch or so before starting to curve. The two pics at the start of the post show both types.
MM / Series 2 types show a lot more of the inner wing, especially with modern lower profile radials most of us use. You can see why the styling was tidied up for the Minor 1000s. If you're not into judging, its down to owners choice what to use, though of course the later ones are easy to obtain, whereas they need modifying, or buying to order for early ones.

Of course it is, it's a 1952 Series MM, it was never a convertible and it was found in a back garden, not in a barn
