Hi

I'm very new to this game. I apologise in advance for my naivety I originally registered in 2010 when i inherited a moggie.

Over the years, I've slowly replaced the chrome work an interior and i finally feel she is in a position to be legal - at last!

I've researched on internet and it looks like i don't need a valid MOT - instead i need to find my local club to confirm its original parts before 1975.

Does anyone know where my nearest club meet is? I live in Milton Keynes.

Can i drive the Morris to an event? I have taken advantage of my membership here and shes insured with Footman James. So its insured...... Just need the legal part from the DVLA

I wouldn't drive it anywhere untill its reregistered with the DVLA, I believe you have to send them photographic evidence in tha absecence of local DVLA office closures.
Police cars are all fitted with recognition systems that link to Road Tax, Insurance and MOT databases. (Hence tax discs are nolonger needed). Also Historic Tax still needs to be ontained regardless of it being free. And, unless your your car is pre 1960, it shouldn't be on the road without an MOT unless you have a booked MOT slot.
This is why you see the police pulling so many bangers, they already know they have an MOT, Tax or Insurance invalid.

As above. For FJ insurance, you must be a member of the MMOC, not just the messageboard. As an MMOC member you will be receiving Minor Matters, and there are contact details for Rob Thomasson who can help with DVLA bits. If you inherited the vehicle then hopefully you already have a V5, and can just fill in the change of owner section. Armed with a valid V5, insurance certificate, and MOT, then you can easily "tax" the car either at Post Office or online.

I think you may be confusing the need for an MoT with the need to 'tax' the car if you think 1975 is the cut-off! Pre 1975 means there is no need to pay road fund license, as the car will be classed as historic (once sorted with DVLA). All Minors fall into this category (for what it's worth, proof of build date can be used for this, and that is what you will need to find - you don't need to know when it was first registered for this). this can be sorted out when you register the car with DVLA, and it will need to be registered with DVLA to be legal to drive on the road.

This is NOT the same as the MoT requirements, for which the cut-off date is 1960. If your car is 1960 or newer, it needs a current MoT in order to be legal on the road. If your car was built before 1960, an MoT is not a legal requirement, although you ought to think about getting one done for reassurance if you are not 100% certain of your mechanical abilities, especially if the car has been off the road for years. ;-)

On pre 1960 cars do you need to apply to the DVLA for MOT exemption in a similar manner to getting historic road fund licence ?

Surprisingly, it seems not. When the exemption came in, I was able to tax my pre-1960 Minor without an MOT "just like that" as the great Tommy Cooper used to say

SHOULD come automatically, well, it did for 2 Minor's I know about.

My understanding is that an MOT is required to register/re-register a car that has been off the road. Thereafter no MOT needed if pre 1960.
